There was a report in the Guardian yesterday about how the BBC is making a new series of Lark Rise to Candleford, to be shown in 2010, despite plans to cut back on BBC costume drama.
I hadn’t spotted this news item, so many thanks to Susannah from Period Dramas.com for passing on the news.

Thank you for commenting, David – glad to hear you enjoy this series. My husband is a fan but I have fallen behind in watching it – however I hope to give it another try in future. I also love a lot of BBC dramas.
I adore Larkrise to Candleford, have done since the very first episode of the very first series. Wonderfully matched group of actors and this is what I think makes it work. Every story is beautifully written and beautifully played out, no one does costume drama like the BBC I have to say, give us more not less can’t wait till sunday!!
Thanks, Jules. The series certainly has a devoted following – I must catch up with it soon! I do agree with you that we need more BBC costume drama, not less.
My all time favourite is of course Pride & Pejudice 1995 BBC adaptation with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. I honestly believe there has been a drought since of Jane Austen until the recent BBC adaptation of Emma.Lark Rise acted as a filler originally but has now become a staple! I urge you to catch up as it seriously becomes a mmmmm, awwwwe, sighhhh factor!
This is what I expect from my tv licence (plus radio 4 and7)
and wildlife programmes.
I think the casting and costumes are superb
Thanks, Bill – it’s clearly a series with a devoted following. I also like Radio 4 in particular.
Thank you so much for Larkrise to Candleford – a beautiful production in every aspect – it makes me smile, laugh and sometimes cry all in the same episode. Is there going to be another series? I hope so.
Hi Jane, I’ve been trying to find out if there is going to be a fourth series but there seems to be no definite news as yet – here is a link to an independent fan site on the show where a recent posting suggests there may be a fourth series of just six episodes, because of cuts to period drama:
